About the role

What if your next engineering role involved architecting the platform, not just inheriting it? We’re partnering with an established, profitable B2B SaaS company that is building the next generation of its core platform: cloud-native, highly distributed, and designed around an AI-augmented software development model from day one. This is a senior IC role for an engineer who likes solving problems at the systems level and wants real influence over architecture, technical standards, and how AI changes the way software gets built. The company serves commercial transportation and aftermarket businesses across North America, with software deeply embedded in mission-critical workflows spanning parts, service, sales, finance, inventory, and warehouse operations. The interesting part: this isn’t simply a modernization project. You’ll help shape a greenfield platform while determining how legacy systems evolve alongside it.
What you’ll do: Architect and build cloud-native applications, services, APIs, and modern front-end experiences. Design service boundaries, contracts, integration patterns, failure modes, and event-driven systems. Use AI coding agents as part of the actual development workflow, defining intent, architectural guardrails, and quality standards rather than treating AI as glorified autocomplete. Improve prompts, context, evaluation approaches, and agentic workflows across the SDLC.Review AI-generated and human-written code with a sharp eye for architectural drift, security gaps, correctness, accessibility, and maintainability. Own observability, reliability, and performance across distributed cloud services. Help establish technical direction and mentor other engineers in effective AI-assisted development. We’re less interested in whether you’ve checked every technology box and more interested in whether you’re a strong systems thinker who is curious, self-directed, technically rigorous, and genuinely experimenting with modern AI development tools.
Location: San Diego-based engineers can work hybrid with the team. Candidates elsewhere in the U.S. can work fully remote.
What You Bring: 6+ years of software engineering experience, ideally building B2B SaaS or enterprise cloud applications. Exceptional candidates with 4+ years of relevant experience considered. Strong full-stack development experience with TypeScript, Node.js, React, APIs, and relational databases. Experience designing and building cloud-native, distributed systems, including service architecture, integrations, and event-driven patterns. Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, containerization, CI/CD, and production environments. Practical experience using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar), with the engineering judgment to evaluate and refine AI-generated code. Strong systems thinking, curiosity, technical ownership, and an ability to tackle complex problems independently.
Nice to Haves:
  • Experience modernizing legacy applications or migrating monolithic systems to cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience with agentic development workflows, orchestration, prompt/context engineering, or evaluations.
  • Experience influencing architecture, mentoring engineers, or setting technical standards.
  • BSCS is welcome but not required. We value demonstrated engineering ability over credentials.
  • Technology Environment:
  • TypeScript, Node.js, React, REST APIs, WebSockets, message queues, SQL, Redis, Docker, Kubernetes, Linux, CI/CD, Terraform, and AI-assisted development tools.
Compensation and Benefits: Expected base salary: $130,000 – $190,000 Comprehensive medical and wellness benefits, 401(k) matching, tuition reimbursement, three weeks of PTO, and a generous company-paid holiday schedule.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
