About the role

Overview: Join a well-established real estate investment firm with more than two decades of experience investing across the Western U.S. The firm focuses on opportunistic real estate investments, including value-add repositioning and development across multifamily, industrial, and retail assets. We are seeking a talented Accounting Manager / Controller to join a collaborative, entrepreneurial team and lead the financial accounting operations of a diversified real estate investment platform. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to take ownership of multi-entity accounting, oversee external accounting relationships, and serve as a trusted partner to leadership. The position offers the flexibility of a fully remote work environment, direct exposure to senior decision-makers, and meaningful responsibility across corporate, property, and investor accounting. The firm values individuals who take initiative, enjoy wearing multiple hats, and combine hands-on execution with the ability to strengthen processes and support the platform’s growth.
Key Responsibilities: Manage day-to-day accounting across corporate, investment, advisory, and affiliated entities, including oversight of external accountants and property-level accounting operations. Maintain general ledger accounts, prepare journal entries, and complete monthly bank, balance sheet, and intercompany reconciliations. Oversee and execute accounts payable, vendor payments, employee reimbursements, corporate credit card activity, and recurring fee billing. Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements and supporting schedules. Prepare annual corporate budgets, periodic forecasts, cash-flow projections, and budget-to-actual analyses. Manage banking relationships, treasury activities, cash balances, and controls over accounts and disbursements. Coordinate with property management and asset management teams to review financial reporting and monitor loan escrows, reserves, and covenants. Manage quarterly investor distributions, including distribution calculations, waterfall schedules, capital account reconciliations, and investor statements. Establish and maintain accounting policies, internal controls, and workflows that improve accuracy, accountability, and efficiency. Coordinate with external CPA firms on tax returns, K-1s, 1099s, and agreed-upon procedures engagements. Review payroll, coordinate retirement plan contributions, and support insurance renewals, entity filings, and related compliance requirements. Manage accounting for principals’ personal and affiliated entities and support confidential financial projects as needed.
Qualifications: At least five years of accounting experience, with strong hands-on transactional accounting capabilities. Real estate investment accounting experience strongly preferred, with experience overseeing property-level financial reporting. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business discipline. Strong understanding of GAAP, general ledger accounting, financial statements, reconciliations, and month-end close procedures. Direct experience managing multi-entity accounting structures, intercompany transactions, and external CPA relationships. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and internal controls. Familiarity with real estate accounting software, with Yardi or RealPage experience preferred. Strong Excel skills and proficiency with modern financial and AI-enabled productivity tools. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities and recurring deadlines independently. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and discretion when handling confidential financial, employee, and investor information.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
