About the role

The Department of Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for an open rank (tenure-track) faculty position to begin July 1, 2027. We are seeking candidates with research and teaching interests in population health and aging. This is the first of an anticipated five related searches over the next four years in a new UNC-Chapel Hill initiative on biosocial health and aging. We seek applications from scholars who exhibit a record of strong and innovative research and excellence in teaching. Candidates are expected to hold a Ph. D. in Sociology or a related field by July 1, 2027. PhD in Sociology, or related field. Specialization in population health and aging. We strongly prefer candidates with experience integrating biological measures into the study of health and/or aging, the use and/or collection of large population-based survey data, use of quantitative longitudinal research methods, and strong interest in or a strong record of federally funded research.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
