About the role

This role is part of the worship ministry at Cross of Grace. The role is expected to be highly collaborative with other staff and with our volunteer musicians. In addition to a focus around the impact of music as part of the ministry, the role involves planning, communication, and cultivation of additional ways to incorporate fine arts as part of the ministry at Cross of Grace.
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Formal training in and experience with organ performance 2. Formal training in and experience with piano performance 3. Five years’ experience in church music/ministry 4. Familiarity with and understanding of “traditional” church liturgics
Essential Functions: 1. In collaboration with the pastoral staff, plan and provide liturgical organ and keyboard music, and coordinate special music and volunteer musicians for the “traditional” 8:30 a.m. worship services. The same is expected for midweek services during Advent and Lent, and other special services, including but not limited to Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Thanksgiving Eve, and Easter. 2. Meet with the pastors and the contemporary music leader, as needed, for purposes of planning and communication, as well as to review selections and ensure they complement the readings and/or the message for the services and church seasons. These meetings will be scheduled in consultation with the pastors, preferably during normal staff office hours on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 3. Direct the traditional service’s vocal choir and provide accompaniment, as needed, during the choir season from Labor Day to Memorial Day. Provide a rehearsal and performance schedule for the choir with rehearsal occurring on a weekday evening. 4. Ensure that selected music is covered by necessary copyright licenses and regularly report usage of copyrighted material used by the congregation in our 8:30 a.m. worship service and by our handbell and vocal choirs, as needed.
