Role Description: The High School Science Teacher is a full-time, on-site role located in Pittsburgh, PA. This educator plans and delivers engaging science lessons aligned with curriculum standards and the academy's STEAM-focused mission. Daily responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, teaching classes, assessing student work, providing feedback, and maintaining accurate records of student progress. The Science Teacher collaborates with colleagues to integrate science with other STEAM disciplines, differentiates instruction to meet diverse learning needs, and participates in professional development and school-wide initiatives. Additional duties include communicating regularly with families and contributing to a positive, inclusive school culture that supports college and career readiness.
Qualifications: Pennsylvania teaching certification in Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, General Science, or a related secondary science content area, or eligibility to obtain appropriate Pennsylvania certification. Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, or a related field; advanced degree is beneficial. Experience developing standards-aligned, inquiry-based, and hands-on science instruction. Ability to integrate technology, engineering, mathematics, and project-based learning into science instruction. Demonstrated skill in Lesson Planning, including designing standards-based, differentiated, and culturally responsive lessons. Experience differentiating instruction to meet a range of academic and learning needs. Experience teaching in urban or diverse school settings and commitment to educational equity. Strong classroom management, communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills. Interest in mentoring scholars and contributing to extracurricular, STEM, or school-wide activities.
