ApplyAbout the role
As a copywriter at Central, you’ll be involved in creative development from the first idea to the final edit. You’ll work with clients ranging from large corporations to local coffee shops, writing for websites, campaigns, emails, presentations, sales materials, and more. You’ll collaborate with designers, strategists, developers, and account managers to figure out what needs to be said and how best to say it. Some projects will call for a memorable headline. Others will need you to do deep research and make a complicated subject clear. You should enjoy both. We’re a small team, so you’ll have a voice in the work and responsibility for getting it right. This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Memphis. We offer flexibility rather than a fixed number of office days, with in-person collaboration as the work requires. Cover letter, resume, and writing samples required for consideration. Please include a link to your samples or portfolio in your resume. Your cover letter doesn’t need to be formal. We just want to know why you’re interested and a little about how you approach your work.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree preferred, in English, journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field.
Experience:
Three or more years writing persuasive copy for a variety of media preferred. Agency experience is helpful. We’ll give more weight to the quality of your work and your ability to think through an assignment than to a specific number of years.
Responsibilities:
Write clear, compelling copy that fits the audience, the brand, and the purpose of the project. Develop concepts with designers and other members of the creative team. Write short- and long-form content for websites, campaigns, emails, presentations, sales materials, and other marketing communications. Interpret briefs, ask good questions, and help clarify project requirements. Research unfamiliar subjects and check facts. Revise thoughtfully in response to feedback. Participate in client meetings and explain the thinking behind your work. Proofread carefully and maintain high standards for grammar, accuracy, and consistency. Manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and communicate early when something could affect delivery. Continue developing your skills as a writer.
Requirements:
Strong writing and editing skills. Comfortable working on a Mac and in Microsoft Word and Power Point. Familiarity with SEO, content marketing principles, AI, and other emerging technologies. Able to adapt your writing to different audiences and brand voices and work independently when needed. Key attributes: Curious. Thoughtful. Collaborative. Dependable. Attentive to detail. Willing to ask questions, take feedback, and contribute ideas.

Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
