A substitute school nurse (RN/LVN) assists in providing the fullest possible educational opportunity for students by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the schools.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's RN, Associate RN, or LVNTX Nurse Certification
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
- Automated External Defibrillators (AED) Certification
- Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to communicate effectively
- ExperienceSome experience working with children is preferable.
- Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Provide critical care services to medically fragile students as assigned
- Administer medications from physicians' orders
- Maintain medication records and reports
- Communicate with medical, nursing, and district personnel
- Manage and provide health room services, including first aid and CPR, according to established procedures
- Provide guidance and counseling in the area of health to students, staff, and parents according to professional standards
- Completes other duties as assigned.

- Supervise students.
- Equipment UsedCopier, personal computer, and audiovisual equipment.
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Stooping, bending, lifting, sitting and/or standing for long periods of time and walk long distances within school campus and grounds. Exposure to outside weather.
