About the role
Carrier Sales Representative – Bulk & Tanker Freight
Location: Chicago, IL
Employment Type:
Full-Time Know how to find the right truck, negotiate the rate, and build carrier relationships that last? Top Talent is recruiting for a growing transportation organization with a significant bulk and tanker business, including fuel and oil transportation. We’re looking for an experienced carrier sales professional who can develop capacity, cover challenging lanes, and become a trusted partner to carriers. This is a hands-on brokerage role for someone who knows how to work the phones and the carrier market. Your ability to find reliable capacity and buy competitively will directly influence service, margins, and growth.
What You’ll Do:
Build bulk and tanker capacity: Develop new carrier relationships and strengthen existing partnerships across regions and lanes. Find and book trucks: Match shipment requirements with the right equipment, qualify carriers, negotiate rates, and secure coverage. Develop market intelligence: Understand carrier preferences, geographic strengths, availability, and pricing—and use that knowledge to make better buying decisions. Solve coverage challenges: Work proactively with operations and sales to keep freight moving and address capacity gaps. Put technology to work: Use the company’s TMS, carrier data, and AI-enabled tools to improve sourcing and maintain accurate carrier information.
What You Bring:
Experience in freight brokerage carrier sales or capacity development, with a track record of sourcing and booking reliable carriers. Bulk or tanker experience strongly preferred, particularly fuel, oil, liquid bulk, dry bulk, or specialized bulk equipment. Strong phone skills and the persistence to “dial for diesel” when capacity gets tight. The ability to evaluate carrier capabilities, equipment fit, and service quality. Confident rate negotiation and an understanding of how buying decisions affect profitability. Strong organization, follow-through, and comfort using transportation technology. The ability to move quickly while maintaining accurate details and strong carrier relationships. Experienced dry van or other truckload carrier sales professionals may also be considered if they bring strong carrier-development skills and the ability to learn the bulk market. Why This Opportunity? You’ll join a transportation organization that is expanding its customer base, transportation capabilities, and bulk business while investing in technology and operational infrastructure. You’ll have the opportunity to help build the carrier network that supports that growth—with a direct impact on coverage, service, and profitability. If you know how to find capacity and turn a first load into a lasting carrier relationship, we’d like to talk. Apply with your résumé and highlight your carrier sales experience, particularly any bulk or tanker freight you’ve handled.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
