About the role
Overview CGS is seeking a FOIA Analyst to join our FOIA Services department. The role supports the legal mission of a large federal agency by processing FOIA requests, creating FOIA correspondence, and managing negotiations.
Responsibilities Receive, review, and analyze new and backlogged FOIA requests.
Intake incoming requests and prepare FOIA request folders.
Enter request data in the FOIA tracking database.
Draft response letters and other FOIA correspondence.
Communicate and initiate negotiations with requesters, FOIA staff, sponsors, and contractors regarding records requested.
Serve as a liaison with requesters and, on rare occasions, other agencies and appellants regarding records that may involve more than one agency component or office.
Coordinate searches for responsive documents and identify duplicate records.
Review program records for responsiveness and provide release determinations.
Ensure released materials do not contain exempted information.
Qualifications Three (3) years of experience processing FOIA requests.
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of FOIA rules and regulations; specifically applying exemptions b(4), b(5), and b(6).
Experience redacting records with trade secrets and confidential commercial information.
Associate’s degree or higher.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Ability to work independently.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to obtain a government security clearance.
Preferred Prior federal government experience.
Experience with FOIA tools such as FOIA EXPRESS.
Experience using SecureRelease.
Active security clearance.
