This position is part of a District Wide Heavy Facility/Road Maintenance crew that is responsible for painting, using various hand tools, operating heavy equipment such as: asphalt paving machines, large roller, tack truck and milling machine for asphalt and milling operations, installing large cross drain culverts, assisting with erosion repair jobs and various facility maintenance projects throughout District 62. This position is located at the Independence maintenance unit and reports directly to the Highway Foreman 2. The incumbent must be self‑motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. The incumbent is required to possess a Class A CDL, pass random drug screens, have working knowledge of a computer, and be able to lift 50 lbs. While in official capacity, DOTD manuals, and directives. applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals and directives.
Two years of experience in mobile equipment operations.

Job Duties:
Performs heavy facility maintenance, construction, and renovation of all DOTD owned buildings, facilities, and welcome centers.
Performs manual labor and material hauling for but not limited to asphalt paving operations, cross drain installation projects, and excavation and embankment projects.
Perform routine equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
Support traffic control, cleanup, and emergency response activities
Perform physical tasks such as lifting, loading materials, and using hand and power tools
Assist or guide lower-level operators as needed
This role requires reliability, safety awareness, and the ability to adapt to changing work conditions.
Position‑Specific Details
Compensation: The starting salary for MEO 1/Heavy will be $21.05/hour.
Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.

Licensing Requirements:
Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. The incumbent is required to maintain possession of a valid Louisiana Class A CDL while appointed to this position.
