About the role
Chief Of PoliceThe City of Waynesboro seeks an experienced, professional, community-oriented law enforcement leader to serve as Chief of Police. The Police Chief serves as the executive leader of the Waynesboro Police Department and is responsible for overseeing all departmental operations, including law enforcement services, criminal investigations, public safety initiatives, personnel management, budgeting, policy development, and community engagement. The Chief works closely with the City Manager, elected officials, employees, and citizens to ensure effective public safety services while maintaining public trust, accountability, and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to:
Lead and manage all aspects of a municipal police department.
Provide strong organizational leadership and personnel development.
Oversee law enforcement operations, investigations, and community policing programs.
Develop and administer budgets, policies, and operational plans.
Foster positive relationships with employees, elected officials, community stakeholders, and the public.
Exercise sound judgment and uphold high professional and ethical standards.
Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and best practices.
Compensation & Benefits:
Starting salary is $75,747.23. Placement within the approved salary structure will be based on qualifications and experience.
