About the role
The Steel Erection Surveyor is responsible for establishing and verifying project control, anchor bolt locations, foundation elevations, and structural steel layout, ensuring columns are accurately positioned, leveled, and plumbed within applicable AISC tolerances. He/she will document as-built conditions, identify and coordinate corrections for out-of-tolerance conditions, and provide survey records and quality documentation supporting the project’s QC and quality management program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Pre-Erection / Layout Establish and verify primary control lines, baselines, and benchmarks from the project survey datum Verify anchor bolt/rod placement, projection, spacing, and pattern before steel arrives Check foundation/pier elevations and top-of-concrete grades against design Provide a written as-built survey of anchor rods and concrete elevations During Erection Set and check column plumbness within AISC Code of Standard Practice tolerances (generally 1:500)Verify column base elevations and shimming/leveling Plumb columns after iron says they are ready to plumb Plumb with shims or rigging Document any out-of-tolerance conditions Quality / Documentation Maintain survey records, field notes, and as-built data for the quality program Verify final plumbness, level, and alignment before connections are snapped/grouted Coordinate with the erector's and QC on tolerance issues and corrections Reference and apply tolerances from the AISC Code of Standard Practice for Steel Buildings and Bridges (ANSI/AISC 303)Support the QC quality management system documentation requirements Equipment Used: Sokkia FX-101 Sokkia FX-201 Leica NA-2 Auto Cad Sokkia iX-1501
Qualifications:
Must have 2 years of industrial construction experience. Must be willing to travel to projects and relocate as needed. Must work hours as necessary to meet project deadlines. Regular, punctual attendance is required.
Physical Demands:
Exposure to extreme temperatures and a loud and dusty environment. Climb, stand, walk, and perform physical tasks throughout the workday. Frequently lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds. Be comfortable working around heavy equipment and active construction sites.
