About the role

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is entering an important new phase. With strong clinical foundations and a renewed sense of ambition, we have an opportunity to strengthen local acute services while growing our contribution as a teaching, research and specialist healthcare organisation serving communities across Hull, the East Riding and the wider Humber region. The Director of Performance, Planning and Business Intelligence will play a central role in this journey. Reporting to the Chief Delivery Officer and working closely with Executive colleagues and clinical leaders, you will bring together performance, planning and business intelligence to strengthen decision-making, support service transformation and turn our strategy into measurable improvements for patients and communities. You will establish a clear and trusted view of organisational performance, improve our planning capability, and ensure that high-quality insight informs decisions at every level. You will help leaders understand emerging challenges, identify opportunities and take confident, evidence-led action. Through collaborative leadership, you will build capability across the organisation and create greater ownership of performance and improvement. We are looking for a credible and accomplished senior leader with substantial experience of improving performance within a large, complex NHS organisation. You will combine strategic perspective with strong analytical judgement and a clear understanding of operational delivery, capacity planning and financial constraints. Equally important will be your ability to build trusted relationships, communicate complex issues with clarity and bring clinical and operational leaders together around shared priorities. For further information about the organisation and this exciting opportunity, including details of how to apply, or for a confidential conversation, please contact Stephanie Crossland at Stephanie.Crossland@gatenbysanderson.com at Gatenby Sanderson. Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
