About the role
JOB SUMMARY:
Program, set-up and operate a CNC OD/ID Grinder. Will grind metal parts while maintaining quality and safety standards, keep accurate records and maintain equipment and supplies.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Ability to program CNC OD/ID Grinder through the use of G&M codes and/or conversational controls.
- Inspect or measure finished workpieces to determine conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as gauges or micrometers.
- Set up, operate, or tend grinding and related tools that remove excess material or burrs from surfaces, sharpen edges or corners, or buff, hone, or polish metal or plastic workpieces.
- Observe machine operations to detect any problems; make necessary adjustments to correct problems.
- Set and adjust machine controls according to product specifications, utilizing knowledge of machine operation.
- Measure workpieces and lay out work using precision measuring devices.
- Select machine tooling to be used utilizing knowledge of machine and production requirements.
- Study blueprints, work orders or machining instructions to determine product specifications, tool requirements and operational sequences.
- Mount and position tools in machine chucks, spindles, or other tool holding devices, using hand tools.
- Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events or the environment to detect or assess problems.
- Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
- Additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned. Minimal requirements for education, knowledge and experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Knowledge and experience of precision machining with Okuma, Kellenberger, Overbeck and/ or Studer grinders.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Knowledge of trigonometry, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Required to stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to function in a machine shop environment.
- Work schedule generally consists of 40+ hours per week, which may include overtime, on-call status, evenings, and/or weekends.
