About the role
Slitter Operator Tempered and Specialty Metals, Inc. (TSM) is seeking a Slitter Operator for our Sterling Heights location. The Slitter Operator is responsible for the overall productivity of the slitter line, with a goal of 95% efficiency, and cross-trains Slitter Helpers at Tempered and Specialty Metals.
Responsibilities and Duties:
At a minimum, the following is a basic description of typical duties and responsibilities expected of the Slitter Operator position. These duties are not exhaustive and are subject to change as the needs of the organization require. Build set-ups by placing spacers and knives onto the tension arm at specified widths for the steel coils to be cut to the customer's specifications. Monitor the process of steel being cut, knowing the gauge of each coil and adjusting accordingly. Enter data for the exact specifications onto the appropriate form for data entry into the computer. Direct Slitter Helper how to stage coils to be processed for maximum efficiency. Inform Plant Manager when supplies to perform job duties are in low supply. Safely drive the Hi-lo through the plant to move coils and skids to designated areas and operate the over-head crane to move coils from the slitter to packaging. Keep immediate work area clean and organized throughout the day. Use precision when operating tools such as tape measures, micrometers, nibblers and calipers. Maintain facility, equipment, and vehicles. Keep a clean and safe work environment. Cross train the Slitter Helper. Adhere to all TSM's safety rules, regulations, and quality standards, handbook policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent 1+ year(s) machine operator experience
Preferred Qualifications: 2+ years of coil slitting experience
