Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City. This position is considered an "Essential Position" for the purpose of Emergency Management. Emergency duties will be assigned as needed. This position requires 24 hours a day, 7 days per week availability during City of Port St Lucie emergencies, as determined by City Administrators, Emergency Manager or City Officials.
Essential Duties: The following duties are illustrative for this position. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie and Police Department at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations. Assists with all duties related to payroll and timekeeping for over 500 Police Department employees. Coordinates and enters payroll data into Kronos using the Telestaff scheduling system. Tracks FMLA, Military Leave of Absence, and overtime/compensation and completes statistical reports. Conducts orientation of payroll to new hires. Gathers data and conducts research for special project requests. May compile monthly generated fiscal/statistical spreadsheet reports. May assist with the budget development process for the Police Department. May make occasional oral presentations. Performs filing and other clerical functions as needed. Cross-trains in Extra-Duty Details operations to serve as the backup to the Extra-Duty Detail Coordinator. Such duties will include, but are not limited to: Telestaff posting, coordinating new details as they arise with the NPB Detail Commander or designee, preparation of invoices for payment, any check issuance to customers via or Munis, making deposits to Finance, and interfacing with employees, volunteers, and the public. Other duties as may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required. Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's degree in Accounting or related field preferred. Three (3) years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, or related experience required. Knowledge of City and Finance Department rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Knowledge of bookkeeping principles. Knowledge of office procedures and practices. Knowledge of basic accounting principles, rules and regulations. Knowledge of City payroll processes. Ability to perform arithmetic calculations accurately and rapidly. Ability to reconcile large files and accounts. Ability to access, input and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to type at the prescribed rate of speed. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to operate a cash register, calculator and other office equipment. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public. Ability to focus on the positive in every situation. Ability to stay centered when challenged. Ability to model respect for individuals, teams, and the organization. Ability to establish and maintain the trust and confidence of the department and public. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability to follow through with assigned tasks.
