Job Description: The DeKalb County Health Department is seeking a full-time (37.5 hours per week) Public Health Nutritionist. This position reports directly to the WIC/BBO-C Coordinator. Ideal candidates have excellent communication skills, is detail oriented, organized and possesses an interest in improving the health in our community.
Responsibilities: Provides and evaluates nutrition needs and services of maternal, infant and child clients within the Community Health and Prevention division. Determines food package prescriptions based on assessment of client health and dietary status. Identifies individuals with high-risk medical and nutritional needs and initiates appropriate referrals and interventions within program guidelines. Supports efficient, client-centered clinic operations through timely completion of nutrition counseling and charting. Coordinates nutrition interventions, including breastfeeding support, tailored to WIC participants' needs. Educates clients on dietary risk factors related to health promotion and disease prevention. Utilizes a variety of computer programs to complete daily activities, including charting, benefit issuance and EMR documentation. Implements outreach activities and participates in WIC initiatives, including late clinics, off-site and popup events. Provides appropriate, unbiased referrals to community agencies and internal programs. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree from an accredited nutrition program. Candidates with a bachelor's degree and a minimum of eight college-level Health Sciences courses may be considered. Possession of a valid drivers' license. Minimum one year of experience in public health or community nutrition preferred. Ability to deliver nutrition education in a culturally responsive manner. Bilingual, English/Spanish or English/Arabic, preferred. Excellent written and oral communication and customer service skills. Ability to problem solve, be flexible and establish and maintain effective working relationships. Requires successful completion of training programs approved by the WIC program. Requires late clinic hours until 7pm, 2 times per month and may require some off-site clinics.
