About the role

Senior / Lead Transmission Line Engineer
Position Overview: We are seeking a Senior / Lead Transmission Line Engineer to lead the engineering and design of high-voltage transmission line projects. This is a fully remote opportunity for an experienced Professional Engineer (PE) with a strong background in transmission line design, project execution, and technical leadership. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in transmission line engineering, the ability to lead complex projects from conceptual design through final construction documents, and a proven track record of mentoring engineers and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities: Lead the engineering and design of overhead transmission line projects, including new lines, rebuilds, upgrades, and expansions. Oversee transmission line design activities, including structure selection, loading analysis, conductor selection, sag-tension calculations, clearances, and foundation coordination. Utilize PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and other industry-standard software to support engineering analysis and design. Ensure compliance with applicable NESC requirements, industry standards, and client specifications. Review and approve engineering calculations, design packages, technical reports, and construction documents. Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineers and design staff. Manage project schedules, deliverables, and technical quality while coordinating with clients, project managers, and other engineering disciplines. Support client meetings, proposal development, project scoping, and technical problem-solving. Identify design risks and develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, Structural, or related Engineering discipline. Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required. Extensive experience in overhead transmission line engineering and design, ideally at the senior or lead level. Strong working knowledge of PLS-CADD and transmission line design principles. Experience with high-voltage transmission projects, including structure loading, conductor design, sag-tension analysis, and clearance studies. Knowledge of NESC, applicable codes, and utility design standards. Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects, review engineering work, and mentor engineering staff. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience leading transmission line projects for electric utilities or engineering consulting firms. Experience with PLS-POLE, finite element analysis, and transmission structure design. Background managing multiple projects and coordinating with clients and multidisciplinary teams. Experience with transmission line routing, permitting support, and construction-phase engineering. Interested in leading transmission line engineering projects without being tied to an office? This is an opportunity to bring your technical expertise and PE license to a remote role with meaningful project ownership and leadership responsibilities.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
