About the role

About the Opportunity: We are seeking a Mechanical Designer with HVAC design experience to join a collaborative architecture and engineering environment in Roanoke, Virginia (relocation assistance is provided). This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career designer or engineer who wants meaningful project exposure, hands-on technical development, and a clear path toward professional engineering licensure. You will support HVAC design and documentation for educational, civic, cultural, commercial, healthcare, transit, and renovation projects while working directly with architects and multiple engineering disciplines.
What You'll Do: Assist with the design of HVAC systems for building projects. Prepare construction documents and technical design information. Perform HVAC design load calculations and energy modeling. Conduct site visits to verify existing building and field conditions. Coordinate project requirements with architecture, structural, electrical, and plumbing teams. Support project delivery from design development through construction documentation.
What We're Looking For: 2+ years of relevant professional experience in HVAC design. Working experience with HVAC system design and production of construction documents. Exposure to load calculation and energy modeling software such as Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, IES VE, or equivalent. FE exam passed and EIT designation preferred, or a clear commitment to pursuing professional engineering licensure. Comfortable working in Microsoft Word and Excel. Strong communication skills and an interest in working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary design environment. Stable work history required - no more than 2 jobs in the last 5 years. Willing to relocate to Roanoke with company-paid assistance. Preferred Experience AutoCAD and Revit MEP. COMcheck and energy-code compliance documentation. Field experience measuring and verifying existing building conditions. Experience with educational, civic, cultural, commercial, or renovation projects.
