Role Description: Phlebotomist position is a Part-time and PRN hybrid role based in San Diego, CA, with some in office and mobile specimen collection. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing safe and accurate blood collection, labeling and handling specimens, and preparing samples for transport or laboratory processing. The role involves interacting with individuals in homes, workplaces, treatment facilities, and clinical settings, while maintaining a calm, professional, and empathetic approach. The Certified Phlebotomist will follow all safety and infection control procedures, confirm patient identity, explain procedures, and provide aftercare instructions. Additional duties may include assisting with basic clinical tasks, supporting wellness and diagnostic programs, and documenting services in electronic systems.
Qualifications: At least 1 year experience is required. Hospital setting experience is a plus. Strong blood collection skills, including venipuncture and capillary draws, with a valid phlebotomy certification. Proficiency in laboratory skills such as specimen handling, labeling, storage, and adherence to chain-of-custody and infection control protocols. Knowledge of medical terminology and medicine fundamentals relevant to phlebotomy, patient assessment, and diagnostic testing. Experience or training in medical assisting, including vital signs, patient intake, and support for clinical workflows. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive care. Ability to travel locally for mobile collections, work independently in the field, and reliably manage schedules and documentation. High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited phlebotomy program and current state-required licensure or certification. Prior experience in outpatient clinics, laboratories, home health, or mobile phlebotomy settings is preferred.
