Boyertown, Pennsylvania Occasional travel required First Response Rail Service is seeking a dependable General Laborer with hands-on mechanical experience to support repair, maintenance, fabrication, and material handling activities. The ideal candidate is comfortable using tools, taking apart and assembling components, identifying mechanical problems, and assisting with repairs.
Based out of Boyertown, PA, this employee works under the direction of a supervisor and occasionally travels to other company or customer job sites. This position requires attention to detail, dependable attendance, and a commitment to safe work practices.* Assist with troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining equipment, containers, and mechanical components under the direction of experienced personnel.
- Remove, replace, adjust, and assemble parts such as hardware, hinges, latches, brackets, and other mechanical components.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including lubrication, tightening fasteners, and checking components for wear or damage, as trained and authorized.
- Use hand and power tools, including wrenches, sockets, drills, impact tools, and grinders, safely and correctly.
- Assist with metal fabrication, cutting, grinding, welding, and torching tasks as trained and authorized.
- Take accurate measurements and check repaired or assembled components for proper fit, alignment, and operation.
- Identify and report damaged parts, mechanical issues, and unsafe equipment conditions.
- Safely load, unload, move, and organize materials, tools, parts, and equipment.
- Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, or priming; assist with painting and applying protective coatings.
- Keep work areas and tools clean and organized and assist with general site maintenance.
- Follow company and site safety procedures, wear required personal protective equipment, and complete required safety training.
- Follow supervisor instructions and perform other related duties as assigned.* High school diploma or equivalent.
- Hands-on mechanical experience in equipment repair, automotive maintenance, industrial maintenance, fabrication, or a similar field.
- Working knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment.
- Ability to assist with basic mechanical troubleshooting and understand how components fit and function together.
- Ability to take accurate measurements and follow verbal and written repair instructions.
- Welding, torching, and metal fabrication experience preferred.
- Ability to communicate clearly, work as part of a team, and adapt to changing assignments.
- Reliable transportation to the Boyertown reporting location and willingness to travel as required.
Travel Requirements:
Occasional travel from Boyertown to other company or customer job sites is required. Assignments may include overnight stays depending on project needs. Travel frequency and duration will vary by assignment. Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Work involves standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting or moving materials, with appropriate assistance or equipment when needed.
