About the Role: Our client is seeking an experienced and innovative Lead Geneticist to spearhead their agricultural sciences division in George. This pivotal role involves leading research into crop improvement through advanced genetic techniques. You will guide a team of scientists in identifying and applying genetic markers for enhanced yield, disease resistance, and climate resilience in key crops. The ideal candidate is passionate about sustainable agriculture and possesses a strong background in plant genetics and breeding, contributing to the advancement of food security in the region.
Key Responsibilities: Lead the design and implementation of genetic research programs for crop improvement. Oversee the application of molecular markers and genomic selection techniques in breeding programs. Analyze large-scale genomic data to identify desirable traits and genetic variations. Manage and mentor a team of geneticists and research assistants, ensuring project milestones are met. Collaborate with agronomists and plant breeders to translate genetic findings into practical agricultural applications. Ensure compliance with all relevant biosafety and ethical guidelines in research activities.
Requirements: Ph. D. in Genetics, Plant Breeding, or a closely related field. Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in agricultural research, with a focus on plant genetics. Demonstrated experience in leading research teams and managing complex projects. Proficiency in genomic analysis tools and bioinformatics software. Strong understanding of statistical genetics and quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience in stakeholder engagement.
