About the role

Required Qualifications: Active Maryland Bar license and in good standing, with a minimum of 3 years of Maryland practice. Substantial experience practicing divorce and family law, including contested divorce, custody, child support, alimony, equitable distribution/property division, and protective or family-offense matters. Demonstrated first-chair courtroom experience, including personally handling contested hearings, motions, evidentiary proceedings and/or trials. Ability to independently manage cases from initial consultation through settlement, trial and post-judgment proceedings. Strong litigation, negotiation, legal research, writing and courtroom advocacy skills. Demonstrated ability to develop case strategy and make independent decisions on complex family-law matters. Excellent client-management and communication skills, particularly when dealing with high-conflict or emotionally sensitive family matters. Solo practitioners and attorneys from small family-law practices are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience handling a substantial caseload independently is highly valued. Candidates practicing or residing in Montgomery, Howard, Anne Arundel, Baltimore County, and the greater Baltimore/Washington metropolitan areas are encouraged to apply. Strong professional judgment, organizational skills and the ability to work independently while collaborating with a broader legal and administrative team. Experience with practice-management technology and electronic case management systems is a plus.
Preferred Skills & Experience: First-chair experience in contested divorce, custody and financial matters. Complex/high-asset divorce experience. Experience with business valuation, complex property division, executive compensation or other sophisticated financial issues. Experience in both settlement negotiations and contested litigation. Existing solo or small-firm practice experience. Experience mentoring or supervising junior attorneys or legal staff. Strong courtroom presence and demonstrated ability to advocate effectively before Maryland family courts.
