About the role

Looking for volunteers who play a "mobile" musical instrument (one they can walk around with) to perform for room-bound older adults in our nursing homes. You can provide your own playlist (3-6 songs) but songs should be appropriate for older adults (classical/jazz, showtunes, Jewish songs, 50s/60s music - no rock, pop, or rap/hip-hop please). No beginners please (4+ years of practice preferred)! You will be given a list of names/room numbers and/or TV rooms to go and play in based on your availability. Unlike a stage performance for bands/orchestras, this is geared to 1-2 musicians at a time visiting 1 resident at a time. Visit https://www.smithlifecommunities.org/giving/volunteer/ for more information.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
