Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and/or update Diagnostic Troubleshooting and Fault Isolation Procedures contained in both paper-based and Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs)
  • Ensure contractual requirements, MIL-STD compliance, and JPO/TACOM guidance is contained within procedures developed or updated
  • Research engineering drawings and specifications, interprets technical data provided by suppliers and customers
  • Utilize a break-out box and other means to induce failures on a vehicle system
  • Reads trouble codes and observes UART, J1708, OBD-II, or J1939 serial data with a Maintenance Support Device (MSD)
  • Documents cause-and-effect of all possible failures on a Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) spreadsheet
  • Develops Diagnostics Troubleshooting and Fault Isolation Procedures for both paper-based and Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs), which isolate any possible cause of a failure down to a field level repair part, using only the tools available to maintainers in the field
  • Photograph vehicle parts for use in the manuals or for the Technical Illustration Group to create illustrations
  • Updates the diagnostic and troubleshooting procedures as necessary based on feedback from hands-on validation and editorial review
Knowledge and Skills: Associates Degree with five years' experience in preparation of Diagnostics/Fault Isolation/Troubleshooting procedures or equivalent four to seven years' experience along with high school diploma or GEDMust possess sound written and oral communication skills, and strong knowledge of diagnostics and mechanical principles Must have the capability of comprehending and disseminating publications specifications requirements Physical Effort: Sight: must be able to regularly read computer screen, reports, and various documents with detail and clarity to accomplish work tasks in a safe and efficient manner, including regular use of adequate close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus Hearing: must be able to regularly hear well enough to communicate

  • Listening Skills: This position will need to understand how to use machinery properly and safely to prevent accidents and ensure all tasks are completed accurately

  • Methodical approach: Production lines follow a set process, so this position needs a methodical approach to ensure all tasks are completed in the correct order for a smooth-running production line
  • Concentration: This position may perform the same or similar tasks repeatedly, so a strong level of concentration when carrying out these tasks is important for quality control purposes. This role is often fast paced, so being able to maintain focus at all times is important
