About the role
Aerospace EDM SupervisorWGI OEM Services is seeking an experienced EDM Supervisor to lead and support our Electrical Discharge Machining operations within our aerospace manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for daily department performance, personnel, scheduling, quality, machine utilization, and technical support while remaining hands-on with EDM processes as needed. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Wire EDM and/or Sinker EDM, aerospace components, precision machining, and leading machinists in a quality-driven production environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise the day-to-day operation of the EDM department, including manpower, machine assignments, priorities, and workflow. Provide hands-on technical support for EDM setup, programming, troubleshooting, and process development. Operate and support Wire EDM, Sinker EDM & Fast Hole EDM equipment as production requirements dictate. Review drawings, specifications, tolerances, work instructions, and manufacturing requirements. Develop and improve EDM processes, tooling, fixtures, electrodes, and machining methods. Ensure production schedules and customer delivery commitments are supported while maintaining quality requirements. Monitor machine utilization, department capacity, productivity, scrap, rework, and overall performance. Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Inspection, Production Control, and other machining departments to resolve manufacturing issues. Support new product introduction and development of EDM processes for new and complex aerospace components. Train and develop EDM operators and machinists, including setup, programming, inspection, and troubleshooting skills. Ensure employees follow approved procedures, work instructions, safety requirements, and quality standards. Promote accountability, communication, teamwork, and continuous improvement throughout the department. Assist with equipment maintenance planning and identify tooling, equipment, or technology needed to improve capacity and capability. Maintain accurate production documentation and ensure proper completion of manufacturing records.
Qualifications:
5+ years of EDM machining experience in a precision manufacturing environment; aerospace experience strongly preferred. Previous supervisory, lead, or working-lead experience preferred. Strong knowledge of Wire EDM and/or Sinker EDM processes. Ability to independently set up, program, operate, and troubleshoot EDM equipment. Strong blueprint-reading and GD&T skills. Working knowledge of precision measuring equipment and inspection techniques. Experience machining aerospace or other close-tolerance components. Understanding of tooling, fixturing, electrodes, offsets, machine parameters, and process optimization. Strong problem-solving and root-cause-analysis skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong leadership and communication skills with a hands-on approach to production.
Preferred Experience:
Experience with aerospace engine components, CNC machining, CAD/CAM programming, CMM inspection, AS9100/AS9110 quality systems, and continuous-improvement methods would be beneficial.
