Job Summary: The Anesthesia Monitoring Technician is an integral member of the anesthesia team required to provide safe, efficient, and cost‐effective care. Their role is to assist licensed anesthesia providers in the acquisition, preparation, and application of the equipment and supplies required for the administration of anesthesia. Anesthesia monitoring technicians assist in cardiovascular/open‐heart anesthesia and have advanced responsibilities in education, training, and providing auto‐transfusion services (Cell‐Saver).

Essential Functions: Demonstrates advanced knowledge and troubleshooting abilities for anesthesia delivery system, scavenger system, gas analyzer, and monitoring equipment. Expert knowledge in equipment maintenance and servicing including cleaning, sterilizing, assembly, and troubleshooting. Inventories, orders, and maintains departmental supply stock in accordance with demands. Clean and replace anesthesia supplies and equipment between surgical cases per infection control policies. Ensures availability of necessary equipment and supplies in each operating room, maintaining supplies within expiration dates and rotating stock. Provides advanced perioperative technical support to the anesthesia professional. Prepares and assembles IV lines and equipment, including spiking fluid warmer, VIP line, and vasoactive drips. Prepares and assembles transducer lines and equipment for invasive pressure monitoring. Assists with operation of specialized equipment such as emergency airway equipment, rapid infuser/blood warmer devices, infusion pumps, ultrasound equipment, and hemodynamic monitoring equipment. Responds appropriately and assists in preparation for emergency/trauma situations. Assists and anticipates the needs of licensed anesthesia providers using problem solving, decision making, and priority setting. Demonstrates dependability in participation of anesthesia monitoring technician call coverage. Knowledgeable in The Joint Commission accreditation and the Department of Health policies, procedures, and mandates related to anesthesia. Participates in systems to support continual improvement of anesthesia services. Promotes and maintains positive interpersonal and intradepartmental relationships. Complies with all departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Proficient at setting up and assisting in various aspects associated with cardiovascular anesthesia. Zeroes and calibrates hemodynamic monitoring equipment. Runs labs including ACT, TEG, and I-Stats. Assists with placement of arterial line, central line, and SwanGanz catheter, assuring sterile technique. Assists with placement of the TEE probe as needed. Assists with auto‐transfusion cases and documents intraoperative services. Operates auto‐transfusion equipment consistent with department policy and procedure. Participates in call coverage for intraoperative auto‐transfusion services. Provides training and orientation to Anesthesia Technicians. Ensures infection control procedures for cleaning and high‐level disinfection are followed. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent in General Studies.
Preferred: 1+ years of Anesthesia Technician experience.
Scheduling and Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to work assigned schedules and hours as determined by the department. Physical demands include exerting up to 10 pounds of force continuously, up to 25 pounds frequently, up to 50 pounds occasionally or rarely to move objects, and possible exposure to radiation and contaminated needles and infectious body substances.
