About the role

The Structural Design and Modeling Engineer works on the development, implementation, and application of advanced modeling technologies within the Enterprise R&D organization, with a primary focus on building and construction products such as insulation systems, roofing assemblies, doors, and adjacent building envelope components. This role emphasizes structural design, simulation, and performance evaluation at the material, component, and system levels under static, dynamic, large deformation, and multi‑physics loading conditions relevant to real‑world manufacturing, installation, service, and durability requirements. Leveraging strong expertise in finite element analysis, CAD‑based product development, and Artificial Intelligence (AI), this Engineer translates customer, product, process, and application needs into robust product specifications and modeling‑driven design solutions for construction‑related products. Owens Corning is devoted to delivering sustainable solutions across our three business segments while striving to ensure our people and products make the world a better place. We take pride in having an inclusive and diverse workplace with employees around the globe. This Granville based full‑time position reports to the Leader‑Advanced Modeling & Simulation within the Enterprise R&D organization. The Engineer is expected to have strong expertise in structural design, finite element modeling, CAD‑to‑analysis workflows, and product performance analysis for building envelope and construction‑related products.Safety ResponsibilitiesAt ALL times, alert teammates of potential safety risks and stop unsafe behaviorActively engage in driving a safety cultureImplement a personal safety action plan and review with leaderEnsure rigorous compliance with standard safety procedures and OC corporate policiesStructural Design, Finite Element Analysis & Product Modeling for Building & Construction Processes & Products (approximate 70%)Lead structural design and modeling of building and construction products, including insulation systems, roofing assemblies, doors, and related building envelope components, using Finite Element Analysis to support product development and optimizationCreate and refine CAD geometry, assemblies, and meshing strategies to support structural analysis, design iteration, and validation of insulation, roofing, door, and other construction product applicationsPerform static and dynamic (linear and non‑linear) structural analyses of existing and new product designs to meet load, stiffness, impact, durability, installation, and in‑service performance requirements for building and construction applicationsDevelop and analyze product and system models under multi‑physics environments, including structural, thermal, moisture and acoustic conditions relevant to building envelope performancePartner with material testing laboratories to develop material data inputs and validation methods for linear and non‑linear analysis of construction materials, assemblies, and interfacesDocument analysis in detailed technical reports, presentations, and management updatesActively participate in global, multi‑disciplinary product development, process improvement, and problem‑solving teams supporting insulation, roofing, doors, and broader building and construction innovation initiativesProvide technical support and modeling insight to help internal and external stakeholders improve product designs, reduce cost, enhance constructability, and enable access to new building and construction marketsDevelopment and delivery of modeling technologies including AI (approximate 30%)Develop linkage between micro, macro & process modeling for applicationsConduct research and development work in computer modeling for use in current and future building and construction solutions, including but not limited to Building ScienceEvaluate new capabilities including Artificial Intelligence for product/part design to improve productivity and reduce modeling costUnderstand latest modeling and material characterization tool enhancements and make improvements to current resources, including micro‑mechanics, stability and durabilityDevelop a strong ecosystem of external design firms and universities that possess expertise in building & construction marketsJob Requirements Minimum QualificationsMaster’s degree in mechanical, Civil, Materials Science or related field of study (PhD preferred)Must be fluent in performing Finite Element analysis (static & dynamic) of different materials, augmented with AIDeep understanding of structure‑property relationships, material behavior, and failure modes under static and dynamic loading, especially as applied to insulation, roofing, door systems, and related construction productsAbility to create and modify CAD files from different CAD tools (for example, SolidWorks) and generate high‑quality meshes (for example, HyperMesh) to build accurate finite element models for product design and performance evaluationTravel: 10‑20%Preferred ExperienceFive or more years’ experience in material modelingTrack record of success in working with customers and cross‑functional teams to design, analyze, and optimize structural products, components, or assemblies for building and construction applicationsExperience in Python scripting (Abaqus)Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesProblem solving with scientific approachCAD software experience for structural product design and modeling, including SolidWorks or similar platformsMeshing, Hypermesh (preferred), Abaqus‑CAE, Ansys‑MeshingFinite Element software for part‑ and system‑level design and modeling, such as Abaqus, Ansys‑Mechanical, Digimat, MoldFlow, Moldex3D, and Multimechanics, with application to construction product performance and durabilityStrong technical documentation skillsAbility to work effectively as a member of an international teamHighly motivated, self‑initiating individual#J-18808-Ljbffr

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
