About the role

Pocket Orchard is hiring a Junior Product Designer to strengthen the web and mobile experience for self-employed customers. The role is based in Austin, Texas with a hybrid schedule (three office days per week). You will collaborate with a Product Design Lead and focus on well-scoped areas of the product, from invoice setup to account settings. What you'll work on You'll tackle specific product surfaces such as invoice setup, expense categorization, savings goals, and account settings. Your day-to-day includes turning defined customer problems into structured design work, building Figma prototypes for review, and refining designs based on usability findings and technical constraints.
Responsibilities: Translate defined customer problems into user flows, wireframes, and interface concepts. Create interactive prototypes for design reviews and usability sessions. Use design-system components across web and mobile screens. Produce clear specifications and assets for software engineers. Review implemented features and identify differences from approved designs. Join customer interviews and summarize observations relevant to product decisions. Iterate designs in response to feedback, constraints, and usability results. Training and development During your first three months, you'll work alongside a more experienced designer. You'll start by improving existing workflows and won't be expected to lead major product areas immediately. Pocket Orchard provides training in accessibility, user interviews, product metrics, and designer-to-engineer handoff. Progression to Product Designer is based on portfolio growth and the ability to complete projects with increasing independence.
Requirements: A portfolio showing at least two digital product, website, or mobile application projects. Basic understanding of layout, typography, interaction patterns, and accessibility. Familiarity with Figma or a comparable interface-design tool. Ability to explain the problem, process, and design decisions behind your work. Openness to feedback and willingness to revise designs. Strong written communication and attention to interface details.
Nice to have: Experience with design systems, user research, prototyping, or basic HTML and CSS is helpful but optional. Tools and technologies Figma and basic web knowledge including HTML and CSS. Compensation and schedule
Salary: $72,000–$82,000 per year (full-time, salaried).
Schedule: Monday–Friday, generally 9:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
Reports to: Product Design Lead. Office rhythm: the product team works from the Austin office Tuesday through Thursday and remotely on Monday and Friday. New hires may attend additional office days during their first two weeks. No on-call support or routine weekend work.
Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision insurance. 401(k) with company matching. 18 days of paid vacation plus sick leave and company holidays. Paid parental leave. Company-paid life and disability insurance. Laptop and home-office equipment. Annual design education and conference allowance. Monthly public transportation or parking contribution.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
