Senior Project Accountant Location: Miami, FL Work Arrangement: On-site Schedule: Full-time | Monday to Friday Salary: $100K - $105K We are seeking a Senior Project Accountant to support the financial management of construction projects. This role is responsible for job cost accounting, subcontract administration, billing, compliance, and financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate must have strong project accounting experience from the General Contractor (GC) side , with solid knowledge of WIP reporting, cost-to-complete analysis, subcontractor compliance, retainage, lien waivers, and progress billing. This position works closely with Project Managers, Operations, Purchasing, and Accounting leadership to support cost control, identify financial risks, and ensure accurate project reporting. Responsibilities and Duties Manage job cost accounting for assigned construction projects. Review vendor invoices and subcontractor pay applications for accuracy, contract compliance, and budget alignment. Support cost-to-complete forecasting in partnership with Project Managers. Identify project variances, billing issues, financial risks, and recommend corrective actions. Prepare and submit monthly progress billings, including AIA billing and related documentation. Manage Schedule of Values, retainage balances, and billing reconciliations. Track subcontractor compliance, including insurance certificates, lien waivers, releases of lien, sworn statements, and other required documentation. Maintain accurate cost coding and commitment entries in the accounting system. Monitor Accounts Payable workflows for assigned projects. Prepare monthly project financial review packages for leadership. Support year-end audit activities and respond to auditor inquiries as needed. Collaborate with Project Accountants, Accounts Payable, Operations, and Project Management teams. Recommend improvements to accounting workflows, reporting templates, compliance tracking, and internal controls. Requirements 5+ years of project accounting experience within the construction industry. Prior experience working for a General Contractor (GC) is strongly required. Strong knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP schedules, cost-to-complete, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition. Experience with AIA/progress billing, Schedule of Values, retainage, lien waivers, and subcontractor compliance. Experience reviewing subcontractor pay applications, vendor invoices, commitments, and project cost reports. Proficiency with construction accounting software such as Procore, Viewpoint, CMiC, Sage Intacct, Sage 300, or similar. Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and financial priorities independently. Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, or a related field preferred. Experience with OCIP/CCIP insurance programs preferred. Familiarity with lien law and subcontract compliance requirements preferred.> Prior experience mentoring or supporting junior accounting staff is a plus. CPA or progress toward CPA designation is a plus.
