Quality Engineer I, Amazon Manufacturing Services

About the Role: AMS seeks a Quality Engineer to own quality systems and processes across our world-class manufacturing facility. You will ensure product quality meets customer specifications while maintaining ISO 9001 certification and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This role requires strong technical metrology expertise, analytical skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally with manufacturing teams and external suppliers. Key job responsibilitiesQuality Systems and ComplianceMaintain and improve ISO 9001 quality management system certificationDevelop and document quality procedures, work instructions, and inspection criteriaConduct internal audits and support external certification auditsDrive corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processesEnsure compliance with customer specifications and industry standardsMetrology and InspectionProgram and operate CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) and other metrology equipmentSet inspection criteria and sampling plans for incoming materials, in-process, and final productsPerform first article inspections and generate detailed inspection reportsConduct capability analysis (Cp, Cpk) to validate process performanceExecute Gage R&R studies to ensure measurement system accuracy and repeatabilitySupplier Quality ManagementConduct supplier audits to assess quality systems and manufacturing capabilitiesOwn supplier quality performance and drive improvement initiativesReview and approve supplier first article inspection reportsManage non-conformance issues with suppliers and implement corrective actionsQualify new suppliers and materialsCross-Functional CollaborationPartner with manufacturing managers to resolve quality issues and implement process improvementsWork with production teams on root cause analysis and problem-solvingSupport Customer Success team with quality documentation and customer inquiriesCollaborate with engineering teams on design for manufacturability and quality requirementsTrain production staff on quality standards, inspection techniques, and documentationContinuous ImprovementLead Six Sigma projects to reduce defects and improve process capabilityAnalyze quality data to identify trends and improvement opportunitiesImplement statistical process control (SPC) methodsDrive cost of quality reduction initiativesBasic qualifications- 3+ years of quality assurance engineering experience- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems- Proficiency with CMM programming and operation- Experience with statistical analysis tools and methods (capability analysis, Gage R&R, SPC)- Demonstrated ability to create first article inspection reportsPreferred qualification - Six Sigma Green Belt, or Six Sigma Black Belt Certification- 5+ years of quality engineering experience in contract manufacturing or multi-process environments- Experience with multiple manufacturing processes (CNC machining, welding, sheet metal, additive manufacturing, coating, assembly)- Supplier audit and supplier quality management experience- Proficiency with metrology equipment beyond CMM (optical comparators, surface roughness testers, hardness testers, etc.)- Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and blueprint reading- Experience with quality management software and statistical analysis tools (Minitab, JMP, or similar)- Strong verbal and written communication skillsAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
