About the role

What if your next retail role gave you the backing of a $200m+ business, but the freedom to build the channel almost from scratch? That’s the opportunity here. We’re working with one of the fastest-growing pet health & wellness brands in the US to hire its first dedicated Director of Retail. You’ll inherit a business with huge ecommerce scale, a loyal subscription customer base and significant investment behind its next stage of growth. But retail is still just getting started. Pet Smart is secured. Products are hitting shelves. What happens next will be yours to shape. You’ll have the opportunity to decide where the biggest wins are, which retailers to prioritise and what needs to be built internally to make retail a major part of the business. That could mean Walmart. Target. Pet Supplies Plus. Eventually, perhaps Costco. The founders aren’t looking for someone to simply execute a predetermined plan. They want someone who knows US pet retail well enough to help create it. What you’ll get Ownership of a new retail channel with significant growth potential Direct access to founders and senior leadership The backing and resources of an established $200m+ business An existing Pet Smart relationship to build from Freedom to shape the retail strategy and retailer roadmap Support from established Product, R&D, Marketing, Operations and Supply Chain teams The opportunity to build your own team as the channel grows Initially, though, you’ll be hands-on. You’ll own senior retailer relationships, develop new accounts, manage Pet Smart and prove what the channel can become. Who could be right? You’ll already know the US pet retail landscape and be able to point to accounts you’ve personally opened, relationships you’ve built and commercial growth you’ve delivered. Perhaps you’re already a Director or Head of Retail/Sales. Or you’re the #2 in a successful pet business and ready to own the whole channel. Experience taking a digitally native or DTC pet brand into physical retail would be particularly valuable, especially across pet supplements, health & wellness, premium food or another challenger pet brand. This isn’t about having the biggest black book. It’s about knowing which doors to open, when to open them and how to make them successful. If you’ve built your career in US pet retail and want the opportunity to put your experience behind something you can genuinely call your own, we’d love to hear from you.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
