Role Description:
The Organist is a salaried part-time employee, on-site role based at Trinity Lutheran Church in Islip, NY. The Organist will provide music for weekly worship services, including Saturday and Sunday liturgies, midweek services as needed, and special services throughout the church year (such as Advent, Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Lent, Holy Week, and Easter). Day-to-day responsibilities include selecting appropriate preludes, postludes, collaborate with clergy and other music leaders to plan liturgical music and direct our two choirs, choral and bell. The Organist will rehearse regularly to prepare high-quality organ and piano performances, accompany choirs or soloists as assigned, and maintain consistent practice habits. Additional duties may include assisting with weddings, funerals, and other church events, caring for the instruments, and contributing to the overall music ministry with professionalism and reliability.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated proficiency in Sacred Music and Church Music appropriate for Lutheran liturgy. Strong skills in Music performance and musicianship, with the ability to read and interpret written scores confidently. Advanced Organ playing ability, including service playing, hymn leadership, and repertoire for preludes and postludes. Competence in Piano accompaniment for choirs, soloists, and additional worship or community events. Ability to collaborate effectively with clergy, worship planners, and other musicians, and to communicate clearly and respectfully. Strong sense of punctuality, reliability, and professional conduct in a faith-based environment. Formal training in music (degree or equivalent experience) is highly beneficial; prior experience as a church organist or accompanist is a plus. Willingness to support the church’s mission and participate in the life of the congregation through the music ministry.
