Senior DirectorA rapidly growing biopharmaceutical organization is expanding its clinical development capabilities and is seeking a senior leader to ownpatient recruitment, engagement, and retention strategy across a global clinical portfolio. This is an enterprise-level role with significant visibility across Clinical Development and Clinical Operations. The individual will help shape how the organization identifies, reaches, enrolls, engages, and retains patients across clinical studies while building scalable capabilities that can support continued pipeline growth. The position requires someone who can operate at both thestrategic and executional level: developing portfolio-wide strategy, advising study teams, identifying enrollment risks, evaluating new technologies and partners, and using data to improve recruitment performance. WHAT YOU'LL OWN
Global Recruitment Strategy
Develop recruitment and retention strategies across multiple clinical programs and study phases, including global and regional approaches tailored to specific patient populations. Partner with clinical teams early in study planning to evaluate protocol feasibility, participant burden, enrollment barriers, competitive trial activity, and geographic considerations. Identify studies at risk of enrollment delays and develop proactive mitigation strategies. Create patient-centered approaches that strengthen awareness, enrollment, engagement, and retention throughout the clinical trial journey. Build strategies that incorporate patient insights and reduce barriers to trial participation. Develop relationships with patient advocacy groups, community organizations, healthcare networks, and other external stakeholders. Advance initiatives designed to broaden access to clinical research and improve representation within clinical trials. Digital & Innovative Recruitment
Evaluate and implement modern recruitment approaches including digital outreach, social media, patient engagement platforms, decentralized trial capabilities, and emerging recruitment technologies. Use recruitment analytics and performance data to determine which channels and strategies are producing meaningful results. Develop enrollment forecasts, recruitment metrics, KPIs, and executive-level reporting. Monitor portfolio performance and identify emerging enrollment or retention risks. Use operational data and lessons learned to continuously improve recruitment planning and execution. External Partners
Lead or support relationships with recruitment vendors, technology providers, digital agencies, patient engagement organizations, and other external partners. Establish clear performance expectations, KPIs, SLAs, budgets, and scopes of work. Evaluate vendor effectiveness and ensure investments are delivering measurable value. Enterprise Collaboration
Work closely with Clinical Operations and partner across functions such as Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Data Management, Biostatistics, Clinical Supply, Patient Advocacy, and Legal. Provide senior leadership with data-driven recommendations related to recruitment feasibility, enrollment performance, risk, and resource allocation. Support evaluation of recruitment feasibility for future clinical programs and potential pipeline opportunities. Team & Capability Building
Help build a scalable participant recruitment and engagement function capable of supporting an expanding R&D organization. Establish consistent processes, tools, standards, and best practices. Mentor and develop team members while fostering a highly collaborative and patient-focused environment. EXPERIENCE WE'RE LOOKING FOR
The ideal candidate will bring: Approximately 15+ years of experiencewithin biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, CROs, clinical research, or a related healthcare environment. Significant leadership experience withinclinical trial recruitment, patient engagement, retention, or clinical operations. Exposure to Phase I through Phase IVclinical development. Global clinical trial and recruitment experience. Strong experience working with external recruitment vendors and technology partners. Experience with digital recruitment and patient engagement solutions. Knowledge of decentralized and hybrid clinical trial approaches. Strong understanding of the regulatory and compliance environment surrounding global clinical research. Experience managing recruitment budgets, vendor investments, and resource allocation. HIGHLY RELEVANT BACKGROUNDS
Experience supporting clinical development in areas such asmetabolic disease, liver disease, endocrinology, cardiovascular disease, or rare diseasewould be valuable, although candidates from other therapeutic areas with strong recruitment leadership experience are encouraged to be considered. Experience working directly with patient advocacy organizations and building strategies to reach underserved or underrepresented patient populations is also highly relevant.
