About the role

Are you a passionate and innovative thermal engineer looking to help develop state of the art AI and aircraft products? Are you eager to make a positive difference in the world? Do you want to work alongside mission driven and values focused teammates? Shield AI is just the place for you! As a Principal Thermal Engineer at Shield AI, you will own the technical direction, architecture, and development of aircraft avionics thermal management systems, with scope spanning aircraft-level thermal and fluid systems. You will lead complex, cross-functional engineering efforts and establish thermal design strategies that support performance, reliability, and scalability across aircraft platforms and programs. This role is best suited for an engineer who thrives on first-principles problem solving, is comfortable with ambiguous, open-ended challenges, and can bridge technical disciplines with strong communication and collaboration skills and the ability to simplify and communicate complex problems. The engineer will serve as a technical authority, shaping system architectures, resolving critical technical challenges, mentoring engineers, and driving robust thermal solutions that meet mission-critical aerospace requirements.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
