Irrigation Technician
harrison greenNew York (NY)
About the role
Overview:
At Harrison Green, we create landscapes that enrich daily life, foster connection, and bring enduring beauty to city rooftops, townhouses, country estates, hospitality environments, and boutique commercial projects. Our work spans city rooftops, townhouses, country estates, hospitality environments, and boutique commercial projects, each approached with the same commitment to thoughtful design, meticulous execution, and long-term stewardship. Operating out of our custom-retrofitted, light-filled commercial studio in Brooklyn, we have built a growing enterprise that has spent over a decade transforming the city's skyline. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Irrigation & Lighting Specialist to lead the planning, installation, and ongoing management of irrigation and low-voltage lighting systems across our diverse portfolio. This role is ideal for a field-oriented expert who loves working side-by-side with general crew members, coaching team members on technical execution, supervising active sites, and rolling up their sleeves to directly install, troubleshoot, and maintain sophisticated systems for high-end urban gardens.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Leadership & Hands On Execution Work hands-on in the field alongside general crew members, consulting on technical hurdles, supervising installations, and performing complex troubleshooting. Direct and execute the physical installation of custom drip/smart irrigation systems and low-voltage architectural landscape lighting. Set daily work plans, enforce rigorous quality standards, and ensure all installations comply with NYC codes, water regulations, and site constraints. Pre-Construction & Project Coordination Review landscape irrigation and lighting plans for constructability, efficiency, and long-term performance. Coordinate seamlessly with our Design, Construction, and Maintenance teams, as well as general contractors and other trades on active sites. Procure materials, track equipment, and maintain accurate documentation, as-builts, and maintenance records. Service & Maintenance Management Oversee and execute seasonal system activations (spring start-ups) and winterizations. Diagnose and repair complex electrical and hydraulic system failures across our private residential portfolio.
Who You Are:
You are a seasoned trade professional and hands-on leader who takes immense pride in technical mastery and craft execution. You are equally comfortable consulting on complex drawings in the studio, coaching crew members in the field, and managing the operational transition of bringing subcontractor work in-house. You view landscape systems through the lens of long-term reliability, efficiency, and seamless integration with high-end design.
What You Bring:
Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in low-voltage lighting and irrigation installation, troubleshooting, and department management—specifically within complex urban environments. Leadership Style: Proven track record of mentoring crew members, managing field teams, and transitioning work successfully from subcontractors to in-house operations. Technical Mastery: Deep comprehensive knowledge of irrigation controllers, smart water-management tech, hydraulic calculations, and low-voltage lighting transformers, fixtures, and wiring. Drawings & Specs: Strong ability to read, interpret, and implement detailed landscape and electrical construction drawings.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, navigate active construction sites safely, and perform physical field work including lifting up to 50 lbs.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
