About the role

Overview: A well-established and growing regional CPA and business advisory firm is seeking an experienced Senior Auditor to join its Assurance practice. The firm partners with privately held businesses across a variety of industries, providing assurance, accounting, tax, consulting, valuation, and strategic advisory services. This position offers the opportunity to lead engagements, work directly with business owners and leadership teams, mentor junior staff, and gain exposure to a diverse client portfolio including privately held companies, nonprofits, government contractors, and employee benefit plans.
Position Summary: The Senior Auditor will lead audit, review, and compilation engagements from planning through completion while serving as a key client contact. This role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, project management skills, and the ability to develop both client relationships and junior team members.
Responsibilities: Lead financial statement audits, reviews, and compilations from planning through issuance. Prepare and review audit workpapers, financial statements, and disclosures. Manage engagement timelines, budgets, and staff assignments. Evaluate internal controls and recommend process improvements. Research and apply U.S. GAAP, GAAS, and other applicable accounting and auditing standards. Communicate findings and recommendations to clients and firm leadership. Supervise, train, and mentor audit associates and staff accountants. Build strong client relationships through proactive communication and exceptional service. Perform risk assessments, audit planning, and engagement scoping activities. Support specialized engagements including nonprofit and employee benefit plan audits. Identify opportunities to provide additional value-added services to clients. Ensure engagements are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
Qualifications
Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.3-6+ years of public accounting audit experience. Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, GAAS, and financial reporting requirements. Experience leading audit engagements and supervising staff. Proficiency with audit software, accounting systems, and Microsoft Excel. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred: CPA license or active progress toward CPA certification. Experience serving privately held businesses, nonprofits, government contractors, and/or employee benefit plans. Knowledge of middle-market accounting and auditing environments. Experience utilizing audit technology and data analytics tools. Prior experience with a regional or national public accounting firm.
