About the Role:
Seeking a hands-on Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and analytics-ready data models across SQL Server and AWS Redshift. This role will use a Medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, and Gold) to transform raw data from sales, e-commerce, finance, and operations systems into trusted data for reporting and analytics. You will work closely with BI analysts, business stakeholders, and IT's data platform team to deliver reliable, high-quality data that powers Tableau dashboards and supports business decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, build, and maintain data pipelines using a Medallion architecture.
Develop and optimize T-SQL, Redshift SQL, stored procedures, views, and queries.
Integrate data from databases, SaaS applications, APIs, and flat files using ETL/ELT tools.
Design dimensional data models, star schemas, and slowly changing dimensions.
Implement data quality checks, reconciliation, monitoring, and alerting.
Support the migration of legacy SQL Server workloads to AWS data lake and Redshift environments.
Collaborate with BI analysts and IT teams to deliver reliable, analytics-ready datasets.
Follow security, access control, source control, deployment, and change management standards.
Maintain data dictionaries, pipeline documentation, data lineage, and governance practices.
Automate data processing and orchestration using Python, workflow tools, and CI/CD pipelines.
Required Qualifications:
4+ years of professional data engineering experience building production data pipelines.
Advanced SQL Server skills, including T-SQL, stored procedures, indexing, query plans, and performance tuning.
Hands-on experience with AWS Redshift, including schema design, distribution keys, sort keys, and query optimization.
Experience implementing Medallion architecture or an equivalent layered data architecture.
Experience with at least two ETL/ELT tools or approaches, such as Fivetran, AWS Glue, SSIS, Airbyte, Matillion, Informatica, or Python.
Working knowledge of AWS services, including S3, IAM, Glue, Lambda, and CloudWatch.
Strong dimensional modeling skills, including Kimball methodology, star schemas, and slowly changing dimensions.
Experience with Git-based source control and structured deployment processes.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Fivetran connectors, schema changes, sync scheduling, and usage-cost management.
- Python skills for data processing and automation using pandas, boto3, or PySpark.
- Experience with orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, AWS Step Functions, or Dagster.
- Familiarity with Apache Iceberg, Parquet, Athena, or Redshift Spectrum.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Cloud
- Formation and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience preparing and optimizing data sources for Tableau dashboards and reporting.
- Knowledge of data governance, PII handling, and role-based access controls.
- AWS certification, such as AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate.
