About the role
Full Time Jail Nurse Opportunity Are you looking for an exciting new career opportunity? ATC Healthcare has immediate needs for experienced RN's to fill full time positions in a jail setting, providing care and care coordination for inmates.
Jail Nurse Job Duties include:
- Intake medical screening of inmates
- Sick call for inmates
- Telephone consultation
- Assist physician with visits and complete physical examinations and record within 10 days of booking date
- Examinations must be signed off by physician within 14 days
Distribute medications at least twice daily, 365 days per year, refilling prescriptions, order new prescriptions, and ensure adequate supply of OTC medications.
Occasional on-call services to include prescription verification, consults, evaluations and referrals as necessary on a 24-hour basis
Nurse will schedule appointments for off-site services and do follow-up with providers, including coordination of transportation
Secure information from inmates on medical insurance prior to making arrangements with outside providers for services or prescriptions
Medical staff will be responsible for tuberculosis tests on all inmates, as well as reading same tests or training staff to follow through with same
Follow-up on all hospitalized inmates on an as needed basis
Provide health assessments, in accordance with Michigan Corrections Department as established by Alpena County
Provide jail staff training as needed for urgent or emergent medical conditions
Provide monthly statistical reports to Jail Administration and the Sheriff
Be a first responder in case of a medical emergency in the jail
Documentation if an inmate's ordered medication was not administered and the reason
Mental health screenings and referral
Provide quality care for chronic conditions such as diabetes by conducting daily blood sugar checks and routine evaluation in a chronic care clinic.

Job Requirements:
- Must have current, unrestricted Nursing License in the State of Michigan
- Must have BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Must have a minimum of one year of experience as a nurse
- Must have 2 recent references
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
- Must have demonstrated leadership qualities for team building
