Role Description: The Assistant Payroll Manager is a remote, contract role responsible for supporting end-to-end payroll operations for assigned clients. Day-to-day tasks include assisting in processing multi-state payroll runs, maintaining accurate employee records, and ensuring timely payments for wages, benefits, and deductions. The role involves monitoring garnishments, resolving payroll discrepancies, and coordinating with HR or finance teams to address employee questions. The Assistant Payroll Manager also helps review payroll tax filings for accuracy, supports compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and contributes to process improvements and documentation of payroll procedures.
Qualifications: Candidates should possess skills in Payroll Administration and Payroll Management to support accurate, compliant payroll operations. Candidates should possess skills in Garnishments and Payroll Taxes to manage deductions and ensure proper tax calculation and reporting. Candidates should possess skills related to Employee Benefits to coordinate benefit-related payroll entries and resolve employee inquiries. Experience with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, Workday, or similar) and proficiency in Excel or other spreadsheet tools. Strong attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams in a remote environment. Knowledge of U.S. federal and multi-state payroll regulations; prior experience in an assistant manager or senior payroll specialist role is preferred. Relevant education such as an associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
