About the role

Our national law firm client is seeking an experienced Patent Prosecution Associate to join a sophisticated Intellectual Property practice representing clients across the life sciences, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and related industries. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical background in Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related life sciences discipline, along with substantive experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications. This is an excellent opportunity for an IP attorney looking to work on sophisticated patent portfolios while gaining broader exposure to patent strategy, counseling, licensing, and enforcement.
Role Overview: The associate will advise a diverse client base on intellectual property matters involving complex scientific and technical innovations. Responsibilities may include:
  • Preparing and prosecuting U.S. patent applications
  • Developing patent prosecution and portfolio strategies
  • Conducting patentability and clearance analyses
  • Preparing patentability and clearance opinions
  • Managing domestic and international patent portfolios
  • Advising clients regarding patent estate development and management
  • Supporting patent licensing and commercialization matters
  • Assisting with patent enforcement strategy
  • Working directly with inventors, scientists, in-house counsel, and business stakeholders
  • Managing multiple sophisticated IP matters from inception through completion
  • Collaborating with patent agents, junior associates, and professional support teams
Candidate Profile: J.D. from an accredited law school 3+ years of patent preparation and prosecution experience Active Bar membership in good standingUSPTO registration required Technical background in one or more of the following:
  • Chemistry
  • Molecular Biology
  • Molecular Genetics
  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Advanced technical degree strongly preferred
  • Experience involving genetics, antibodies, organic chemistry, and/or pharmaceutical chemistry is highly valued
  • Strong patent drafting and prosecution skills
  • Excellent analytical, technical writing, and communication abilities
  • Ability to independently manage patent matters and client relationships
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
