About the role
Bus Attendant Ensure the safety and protection of Special Education students on a school bus by assisting the bus driver during assigned bus routes. Reporting Relationships: Supervisor, Transportation Transportation Assistant Terms of Employment: 10 months - DFSE Salary Schedule Evaluation: Annually
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Ability to communicate adequately in the English language.
Ability to document safety issues and incidents.
Understanding of individual needs of special students.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with bus driver.
Experiences with physically and mentally challenged persons.
Performance Responsibilities:
Accompany driver from bus terminal throughout route to pick up and deposit students as assigned and return to terminal.
Assist students on and off the bus directly in front of home or a pick-up station. Knowledge of operating lift equipment.
Provide for safety of student as needed and assist in maintaining order on the bus.
Awareness and understanding of disabilities, medical issues, and special circumstances of Special Education bus riders.
Working knowledge and ability in the proper use of seat belts, safety vests, car seats, and safety straps.
Follow driver instructions that enable the driver to safely and properly operate the school bus.
Knowledge of and ability to perform emergency evacuation of the school bus.
Knowledge of and ability to use emergency equipment on a school bus.
Understanding of laws, District policies and Department procedures involved in the transportation of Special Education students.
