About the role

Description Are you called to serve Christ and others? Do you believe God transforms lives? Do you steward the resources God provides with wisdom? Are you a team player? Do you care for people, knowing all are made in the image of God? If you answered "yes" to all those questions, then maybe God is calling you to join the staff at The City Mission! For 115 years, God has been using the Mission to reach hearts and change lives. It starts with emergency shelter for men, women and children experiencing homelessness - but that is just the beginning. While with us, residents participate in holistic, gospel-centered services that include chapel, case management, group counseling, workforce development and job training. In short, our staff are City Missionaries offering help and hope to all people through the transforming power of God's love. Right now, we are looking to add a Food Service Assistant to our team at our Laura's Home campus. This position reports to the Laura's Home Food Service Supervisor and is responsible for all kitchen and food service operations. This is a part-time/weekend position (Saturdays and Sundays, 2:00pm-7:00pm) As a Food Service Assistant, you'll do more than prepare meals-you'll help provide comfort, dignity, and the love of Christ to women and children experiencing homelessness. Working alongside a mission-driven team, you'll prepare nourishing meals, support volunteers, and create a welcoming dining experience that reminds every resident they are seen, valued, and cared for. If you have a high school diploma or GED, some food service experience (preferred), and enjoy guiding others while serving with compassion, this is an opportunity to use your gifts to make a meaningful impact with every meal. Before clicking "apply," here's the fine print: Ministry work is challenging. Serving people is challenging. And as each staff member is a minister of the gospel, we have high standards for personal conduct and hold sincerely to our statement of faith. If you're "just looking for another restaurant job," this isn't it. But if you're being called to urban Missionary work, apply today to be our next Food Service Assistant! Applications will only be accepted through The City Mission website (www.thecitymission.org/careers)

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
