About the role
You will work side-by-side with firm leadership to serve clients and help further their mission, having a direct impact on the firm's success. Additionally, you will be a coach to a group of talented staff, utilizing your experience to help develop their technical and professional skills.
Responsibilities:
Be a trusted member of the team providing various tax and advisory services to many different types of nonprofits. Review and analyze nonprofit tax returns provide analysis and consultation and communicate with clients to discuss best practice nonprofit tax reporting. Deliver best-in-class customer service to clients at all times, with an emphasis on being responsive, timely, professional, and accurate Lead and plan client engagements, and continuously evaluate processes and procedures within the client services and implementation functions with emphasis on implementing efficiencies and identification of best practice tax reporting Manage and build client relationships, act as liaison to address and resolve client issues, and assist team leaders in researching and providing additional services to client Effectively delegate and oversee the work efforts by setting goals, providing resources, removing obstacles, and scheduling deadlines to meet client expectations for delivery Maintain current knowledge of federal and state nonprofit tax laws and regulations Utilize your entrepreneurial skills to network and build strong relationships internally and externally with clients and the community Invest in your professional development individually and through participation in firm wide learning and development programs
Qualifications:
Minimum Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, or relevant experience and/or education as determined by the company in lieu of bachelor's degree 7 years of experience in tax compliance and planning, including experience with tax-exempt organizations, partnerships, and/or healthcare-related structures 3 years in a management or leadership role Preferred Experience with tax-exempt organizations, including preparation and review of Forms 990 and 990-T, and analysis of unrelated business income (UBIT)Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax requirements impacting tax-exempt entities and partnerships Experience coordinating with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies on compliance and audit matters Ability to assess business activities and transactions and communicate related tax implications to finance, legal, and operational leadership Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the ability to partner effectively with accounting teamsCPA, master's degree in taxation, MBA, JD, or relevant advanced certification preferredSKILLSProven leadership skills – ability to motivate others to quickly achieve results in a matrixed environment. Uses knowledge of industry and market trends to develop and champion long-term strategies. Demonstrates the ability to effectively persuade others to listen, commit, and act on a new approach. Self-confident with an ability to accept and respond to challenges in a positive manner. Strong and effective verbal and written communication skills. Effectively presents complex topics in a concise manner to audiences at various levels and in various sizes. Broad understanding of business issues, metrics, organizational linkages and customer value. Successful experience in achieving results through people in a complex environment. Strong organizational and analytical skills in addition to project leadership and management skills.
