Body Shop Technician The Body Shop Technician is responsible for performing bodywork and general repairs on class 6, 7, and 8 trucks. This role involves following instructions from supervisors, performing body repairs, and ensuring vehicles are restored to proper condition.
Duties and Responsibilities: Follow supervisors' instructions regarding which parts to restore or replace and the estimated time for the job. Review damage reports, prepare or review repair cost estimates, and plan work accordingly. Sand body areas to be painted and protect bumpers, windows, and trim with masking tape or paper. Fit and weld replacement parts into place, using wrenches and welding equipment, and grind down welds to smooth them. Prime and paint repaired surfaces using paint spray guns and sanders. Remove damaged sections of vehicles using metal-cutting guns, air grinders, and wrenches, and install replacement parts. Chain or clamp frames and sections to alignment machines to align damaged components. Fill small dents with plastic or solder. File, grind, sand, and smooth filled or repaired surfaces using power and hand tools. Remove upholstery, accessories, electrical equipment, and trim to access vehicle bodies and fenders.
Minimum Qualifications: Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs.
