Job Overview:
Our client is seeking a Project Manager to lead municipal and institutional construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. This role will manage budgets, schedules, subcontractors, vendors, client communication, and overall project execution. Candidates must have strong general contractor experience with municipal, education, justice/correctional, healthcare, or similar institutional projects. This is a Charlotte-based role, but candidates must be comfortable with significant regional travel to active project sites, including assignments outside the immediate Charlotte area.
Responsibilities:
Manage construction projects from assignment through closeout, ensuring safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery. Lead bid packages, subcontractor qualification, vendor coordination, contract awards, and subcontractor performance management. Develop and maintain project schedules with superintendents, subcontractors, and project leadership. Manage project financials, including estimates, cost reports, budgets, invoicing, change orders, and subcontractor payments. Coordinate permits, inspections, approvals, submittals, client communication, quality, safety, and closeout. Qualifications / Skills Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum of seven years of construction project management experience with a general contractor. Experience managing municipal, public-sector, education, justice/correctional, healthcare, or similar institutional construction projects. Experience with jails, courthouses, schools, public facilities, or healthcare facilities preferred. Strong knowledge of estimating, scheduling, cost control, construction methods, project controls, and subcontractor management. Strong leadership, communication, organization, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Other Relevant Information Significant regional travel is required based on project assignments. Candidates should be comfortable supporting active job sites across Charlotte, the Carolinas, and nearby regional markets as needed. Travel may include extended time on site for project assignments, with periodic trips home depending on project location, schedule, and business needs.
