About the role
Accounting Analyst The Accounting Analyst is responsible for advanced sales and use tax compliance, audit defense, tax research, and general accounting analysis. The position independently analyzes complex taxability issues, ensures accurate and timely tax reporting and filings, coordinates and supports state and local tax audits, and identifies opportunities to mitigate tax risks and appropriately minimize tax liabilities. The role also performs advanced review and certification of purchase orders and payment requests, general ledger analysis and reconciliations, journal entries, account research, and month-end closing activities, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, company policies, and authorization requirements. This position provides training and guidance on accounting and tax matters, resolves complex accounting and tax issues, and provides management with analysis and recommendations to support business decisions and strengthen financial and tax compliance and leads or participates in special accounting and tax projects as assigned. Major areas of accountability include sales and use tax compliance, research and analysis; advanced transaction review and certification; general ledger analysis and reconciliation; tax audit defense and regulatory support; accounting and tax research; cross-functional training and support; process improvement and special projects; and adherence to the Total House Keeping Maintenance program. Qualifications include a minimum of 6-10 years of related experience in accounting, taxation, finance or closely related field preferred, depending on education. Knowledge of federal and state tax regulations is a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including mathematical calculations and data analysis, is required. Other technical skills include proficiency in Microsoft Word, skilled use of internet search engines for research and information gathering, advanced knowledge of sales and state tax regulations, exemption, taxability, strong knowledge of general accounting principles, financial reporting, account reconciliation, journal entries, and month-end closing procedures, experience with AS400 systems, and a highly self-motivated attitude with a strong willingness to learn. Education requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of 10 years of direct job-related experience, or a bachelor's degree with 6 years of direct job-related experience, or an associate's degree with 8 years of direct job-related experience.
