About the role
A leading architectural practice is seeking a commercially minded and highly organized Business Development Manager in NYC to drive strategic growth and oversee bid activity. Working closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams, this role focuses on generating new opportunities while producing high-quality proposals and presentations. The ideal candidate will have experience in the architectural sector, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage relationships, develop compelling content, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the preparation and submission of EOIs, PPQs, ITTs, bids, and competition entries. Create high-quality proposals and business development materials, including presentations, reports, project sheets, written content, and CVs. Support leadership in defining project teams, including identifying and engaging sub-consultants aligned with client needs. Research and identify new business opportunities across target markets, generating and tracking qualified leads. Maintain regular communication with leadership on pipeline activity, including potential bids, tenders, and competitions. Monitor incoming enquiries and accurately track timelines, submissions, and feedback. Build and manage a robust business development pipeline and maintain an organized CRM system. Develop strategic relationships with prospective clients and coordinate key meetings. Stay informed on competitor activity and market positioning. Represent the brand across industry engagements and client interactions. Identify and support participation in key industry events. Partner with Marketing and Communications to produce materials supporting business development and award submissions.
Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Strong network within architecture, design, or the broader built environment sector. Demonstrated ability to drive growth through market insight and strategic thinking. Excellent communication skills, with a proactive, strategic, and persistent approach. Strong awareness of industry trends, developments, and market conditions. Understanding of target markets, including clients, projects, and effective outreach strategies. Creative thinker with the ability to shape and uncover new opportunities. Confident and collaborative, with strong leadership and relationship-building skills. Outstanding interpersonal and stakeholder management abilities. Genuine interest in contributing to a high-impact, strategic role within a leading design-focused environment.
