Position Summary: Intuitive Safety Solutions (ISS) is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Technician to support maintenance operations at a large industrial terminal facility. The I&E Technician will perform preventive and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and testing of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems to help maintain safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations. This position requires strong hands-on industrial maintenance experience, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with operations, engineering, vendors, contractors, and other maintenance personnel.
Key Responsibilities: Perform preventive and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repairs on electrical, instrumentation, and control equipment associated with terminal loading, unloading, and storage systems. Troubleshoot and repair PLC, HMI, firewater, marine vapor control, electrical and steam heat-tracing systems. Maintain, troubleshoot, and monitor instrumentation and safety-critical systems. Coordinate with vendors and technical specialists to diagnose and repair I&E equipment. Coordinate and oversee third-party inspectors and approved contractors performing maintenance and inspections on equipment including high-voltage systems, cathodic protection, heat tracing, compressors, flares, and related systems. Complete assigned work orders and accurately document repairs, deficiencies, and maintenance activities within the facility's CMMS.Participate in Management of Change (MOC) activities and equipment change-of-service processes. Lead or participate in safety discussions, job walkouts, and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR).Prepare and review Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) for I&E maintenance activities. Complete and review required work permits, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).Coordinate materials, inventory, repairs, shipping/receiving, and vendor requirements. Provide safety and technical leadership during I&E maintenance and repair activities. Provide oversight of I&E contractors and, when needed, mechanical contractors. Support operational activities, including control-room monitoring and commissioning/decommissioning activities. Track and monitor safety-critical systems and alarms. Participate in the facility Emergency Response Team after completing required training and eligibility requirements. Maintain clean and orderly work areas and ensure tools, equipment, and materials are properly returned and stored. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. NFPA 70E certification required. Minimum 5+ years of industrial experience repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical, instrumentation, and/or control equipment. Strong knowledge of industrial electrical safety, environmental requirements, and safe work practices. Experience working with electrical testing and instrumentation testing equipment. Ability to read, understand, and comply with work permits, JSAs, LOTO procedures, and other safety documentation. Ability to maintain a valid TWIC card. Ability to work an on-call rotation and irregular hours when required.
Preferred Qualifications: NCCER Electrical or Instrumentation certification. Electrical Maintenance or Journeyman license. Associate's or bachelor's-level technical degree from an accredited institution. Experience with advanced instrumentation including: SAAB instrumentation Guided-wave radar level instrumentation Magnetic level instrumentationO₂ analyzersBTU analyzers Experience with heater and chiller systems, air compressors, rail or truck load-cell systems, and wastewater systems. Experience with PLC and HMI systems. Experience using SAP, CMMS, or comparable maintenance-management systems. Experience working in terminal, petrochemical, chemical, refining, oil and gas, or other heavy industrial environments. Physical &
Work Environment Requirements: This is a hands-on industrial position requiring the ability to work safely in an active terminal environment. The employee must be able to: Frequently stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, reach, balance, push, pull, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements. Climb ladders and access elevated equipment and tank areas. Lift and carry 26–50 pounds. Work outdoors in hot and cold weather conditions. Work at heights and in confined spaces. Work around electrical hazards, heavy machinery, fumes, gases, odors, dust, grease, oil, mud, noise, and hazardous chemicals. Wear required PPE, FRC clothing, fall protection, and respiratory protection as required. Maintain the physical stamina and situational awareness necessary to work safely throughout the workday.
