Job Summary: The Second Shift Supervisor oversees daily second-shift plant production and leads Chemical Operators to consistently produce in-specification materials in accordance with established Chemical Operating Procedures (COPs). This position is responsible for maintaining high standards of quality, productivity, efficiency, safety, and teamwork while ensuring smooth and effective plant operations.
Essential Job Responsibilities: Actively support and demonstrate the company’s values and codes of behavior. Supervise Chemical Operators and coordinate daily job assignments. Ensure operator compliance with Chemical Operating Procedures, company policies, and safety requirements. Monitor production schedules and make adjustments as necessary to meet operational needs. Meet daily with the First Shift Supervisor and Plant Manager to communicate updates, observations, plans, and operational needs. Ensure employees have the proper tools, equipment, and resources required to perform their jobs effectively. Assist the Plant Manager with ordering raw materials and plant supplies. Maintain complete and accurate production records using COPS and Process Pro. Oversee ERP training and retraining as necessary. Ensure compliance with all in-process and final product QA/QC sampling requirements. In the absence of the Plant Manager, work closely with the First Shift Supervisor to provide appropriate operational coverage. Actively support plant operations and processes as needed, including sharing workload with direct reports. Perform minor maintenance repairs and preventative maintenance as needed. Lead by example in safety, quality, productivity, processes, and company values while fostering a positive team environment. Participate in required meetings and training programs. Provide on-the-job hazardous waste management training for new operators. Assist with hazardous waste shipping as directed by the Plant Manager. Report waste streams generated by production as a result of nonconforming processes or abnormal plant conditions. Monitor waste containers, storage areas, and emergency equipment and report non-compliance issues for appropriate follow-up. Participate as a member of the plant Emergency Response Team and maintain required emergency response training. Ensure visitors and contractors in production areas comply with all applicable safety policies and procedures. Secure the plant during and after work hours as required. Report and document non-conformities. Implement daily housekeeping routines, routine risk assessments, and daily safety walkthroughs. Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements: High school diploma or GED required.3–5 years of experience supervising diverse manufacturing or chemical plant operations. Ability to effectively multitask and prioritize competing responsibilities. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve moderate issues independently in a timely and cost-effective manner. Ability to operate complex equipment and machinery and understand equipment design and operation. Thorough knowledge of plant unit operations and processing equipment. Experience supporting start-up operations and successfully producing materials for the first time at plant or pilot scale. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, protective clothing, face masks, safety glasses, boots, and other equipment as required. Experience using an ERP system; Process Pro experience preferred. Ability to meet deadlines and maintain accurate production documentation. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Working knowledge of arithmetic and its practical applications. Sound judgment, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and develop employees while promoting teamwork and quality performance. Ability to operate a forklift.
Physical Requirements: Ability to hear and see effectively. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to sit as required. Ability to focus on a single source of sound in the presence of other distracting sounds. Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, and climb. Ability to reach, feel, and handle equipment. Ability to perform repetitive motions using hands, wrists, and feet. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors. Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods.
Training Requirements: Complete all required health and safety training.24-Hour HAZWOPER / Hazardous Response Technician training. DOT Hazardous Materials Transportation Training. Forklift Training. IATA Training. Additional training as required for the position.
